This 2007 publication discusses the development of HelpAge International’s home-based care model in Tanzania for supporting older carers of people living with AIDS. The material presented here is a resource for home-based care service providers. This model is particularly useful in community home-based care settings where the majority of older careers may not have had any training in HIV/AIDS caring role. The model includes key components to be considered when developing a community home-based care programme to support older carers, and lends itself to be integrated into the national HIV/AIDS policies, guidelines, curriculum, and programmes.
